Questions, Answered

Frequently asked questions.

Straight answers about how Prometheus works, who does the work, and how to put three decades of advanced-engineering judgment to work on your problem.

The Short Version

What most people ask first.

If your question isn't here, a discovery call is the fastest way to get a direct answer.

What kinds of problems does Prometheus solve?

Prometheus is brought in for the hard, high-stakes engineering problems only senior experience can resolve: finding the root cause of a product that keeps failing, unsticking a stalled R&D program, recovering a failing supplier before a launch slips, and taking a technology from the lab to volume production. We also perform independent technology assessments, provide interim engineering leadership, and conduct technical due diligence. If it sits at the intersection of engineering, suppliers, and manufacturing and your team can't move it, it's the kind of work we do.

Which industries do you work with?

We work with semiconductors, defense and government, medical devices, robotics and autonomy, automotive OEMs, and advanced manufacturing. More broadly, Prometheus serves any team building demanding electromechanical and electronic products where reliability and performance are non-negotiable. The underlying mechatronics disciplines are the same across all of them, which is why the expertise transfers so directly.

Do you only work in automotive?

No. Automotive is the pedigree, not the boundary. The mechatronics disciplines forged in automotive-grade R&D — motors, power electronics, sensors, embedded software, controls, and supplier quality — transfer directly to semiconductors, defense, medical, robotics, and beyond. Engagements are always structured to respect all prior and existing professional obligations.

What is a discovery call, and what does it cost?

A discovery call is a free, focused conversation of about thirty minutes. Its only purpose is to understand your problem and give you an honest read on whether and how Prometheus can help. There is no cost and no obligation — if it isn't the right fit, we'll tell you plainly.

How are engagements structured?

Engagements take three main forms: scoped projects with defined deliverables, interim or retainer arrangements for ongoing leadership, and short advisory or due-diligence engagements. All work is billed time and material — a clear hourly rate plus expenses, agreed before any work begins — so you pay for the work actually done, with nothing padded. The scope, success criteria, and rate are confirmed in writing up front, so you always know the deliverable, the timeline, and who owns the outcome.

Who actually does the work?

The principal, Christian Ross, does the work directly. He is a thirty-year, Chief-Technologist-level engineer — not a bench of juniors billing under a senior name. When you engage Prometheus, that experience is the person in the room.

Do you sign NDAs?

Yes. NDAs are standard practice and welcomed. Discretion is simply expected at this level, and all client work is kept strictly confidential — which is also why client names are never published.

Can you serve as a interim engineering executive?

Yes. Prometheus provides part-time Chief-Technologist and VP-of-Engineering-level leadership for organizations that need senior judgment without a full-time hire. That includes organization design, development process, technology roadmap, and the go/no-go decisions that determine where capital and effort go.

Do you do technical due diligence for investors?

Yes. We provide independent technical due diligence — an objective assessment of a technology, team, or acquisition before capital is committed. Investors and leadership get a candid read on what is real, what is risk, and what it will actually take to succeed.

Can you help with domestic sourcing?

Yes. Christian has firsthand experience developing precision, North-American-producible motors and electronics, now in production at millions of units a year. That makes Prometheus well suited to defense, tariff, and supply-resilience mandates that require reducing foreign dependency without sacrificing performance.

Are you remote or on-site?

Both. Prometheus is based in Freeland, Michigan and serves clients nationwide. Work is done remotely wherever that's efficient, with on-site presence when the problem, the hardware, or the team requires it.
